Facebook has introduce new privacy options for there users, to ensure that you don’t over share your personal information, as they are getting more complaints about account security. In this post I am going to show you how to secure your privacy on world’s most famous Social Network.
Let’s begin.
1. Create Strong Password:
1. Create Strong Password:
First and important thing is to use strong password. Use Alphabets – Capital (ABC…) as well as Small (abc…), Numbers (0123…), Special Charters (@#$…) and also Space in your Password. Make password Strong and Easy to remember. Never write your any password anywhere, don’t tell it to any one even to your closest Friend.
2. If someone else accesses your account:
Facebook has introduced a new feature that when your account has been hacked and being accessed from another computer, you will get an email and/or a sms if you have activated sms service on Facebook. This is great way to protect your fb account. Just go to Account >Account Settings in the top right corner, then click “Account Security” and you will some thing like this:
To enable this feature, click “Yes” and if you want sms also then check on “SMS” and click “Submit.” You’ve now turned on Facebook’s new account security settings. Now you have to Register your computer and boom you have done.
3. Show Limited information in profile:
Facebook provides you to create and share a very detailed profile that includes everything from your street address, telephone number, birthday, cell numbers and your school-college-job information in other words, info that may help somebody steal your identity.
Show only that information which is enough to identify you. Use Pricy settings to restrict what you share, settings which were previously so complex that people have to use third-party tools. Now Facebook has made it so simple just go to Account > Privacy Settings at right top corner. Now go and apply what you want to keep private and shared with your Friends. You can restore Facebook’s recommended default settings if any thing goes wrong.
4. Chose Privacy Settings for applications:
Some information of your profile may be viewed by some applications or any other website, even though if you are not using particular application -if one of your buddy is using it then your profile information may be accessed. Click “Edit your settings” in above window at lower left corner to access this screen:
And then make changes under each section, such that only that information is access which you want through your or your friend’s Applications, Games etc. Pay more attention to “Info accessible through your friend” because more amount of information of your profile is shared by default.
5. Use per-post privacy settings:
Facebook also provides you per post privacy, now you can specify whether a post will be visible to friends, friends of friends or everyone. Click on lock like icon below the message composition box and select any one. you can also select Customize option to show to particular Friends.
