Mozilla Firefox - Plugins and Extensions

Have you ever shared a link you found while browsing the web in Firefox and had this happen to you? You copy the URL into an e-mail message, then you go back and copy the title, and then when you paste it into your message body you get an ugly combination of different font sizes and colors? Then since your copied text is rich text you need to open up Notepad, paste the text in there, re-copyit, then re-paste the text back into your e-mail message. Grrrr.....

With the "Copy as Plain Text" extension you can copy the text, only the text, and nothing but the text. After installation, just right-click on selected text and choose "Copy As Plain Text" from the popup menu. Or, if you like keyboard shortcuts, press CTRL + SHIFT + C. Then, just paste the text into a Microsoft Word 2010 document, Gmail message, or whatever. No more text formatting and hyperlinks!

Are you using the Firebug extension?

If you are using Firebug, you may note that CTRL + SHIFT + C toggles inspecting. You will need to reassign this shortcut to a different key. To do so, click on the Firebug options button and select "Customize Shortcuts". Then when the "Firebug Shortcut Bindings" dialog appears, scroll down to "Toggle Inspecting", click on the associated textbox, press the Backspace key, then give this feature a new shortcut keystroke. Finally, click "OK" to close the dialog box.

This tip was written regarding the Copy As Plain Text add-on v1.0.6 running on a Windows 7 box. Features, instructions, and screenshots for other versions / operating systems may vary.
