Mobile Application Development


Now-a-days, there are many options for purchasing a mobile. You can look upon various features like Camera, Sound Quality, Display Type (LED, TFT, AMOLED or CSTN) and many other factors. But for a developer or any person who likes to create his own mobile application can search for a phone with better Operating System (OS) which lets you create your custom application easily. There are multiple brands in the market, each using its own Operating System. There are some Mobile OS in the market in which you can design your own custom applications within minutes even if you don’t have any programming knowledge. The various Mobile Operating Systems are:
1. Symbian (Latest Ver. S60 5th Edition)
Symbian OS is one of Nokia’s mobile operating systems for mobile devices and smart phones, with associated libraries, user interface, frameworks and reference implementations of common tools, originally developed by Symbian Ltd. Everyone knows that Nokia is one of the leading cellphone brand in the world and it’s users are known to the features as well as loop holes of this Operating System. So talking about developing applications in Symbian, as of 2010, the SDK for Symbian is standard C++, using Qt. You can download the Symbian SDK (Software Development Kit) from its website. Don’t worry about licensing because Symbian is Open Source.
2. Windows Mobile 6.5 (Latest Ver. 6.5.3)
Windows Mobile is a mobile operating system developed by Microsoft for use in smart phones and mobile devices. HTC is one of the leading mobile brands using Windows Mobile OS in its smart phones and PDA’s. For programmers, who are in touch with .NET technology or create desktop applications in .NET, for them this OS is a great thing. They can develop applications for Windows Mobile 6.5 easily within key clicks and lines of code. With the launch of the latest Windows Mobile 7 (rebranded as Windows Phone), its easier to do your simple PC tasks as easy as possible. Windows Mobile OS lets you do almost anything – browse internet, connect to remote computer, view and edit Word docs, PPT files, Excel spreadsheet, PDF files including all the basics like calling, messaging and mailing. And, if you are using an HTC phone with HTC Sense, then its great as you can manage all your tasks and applications with much more ease.
3. BADA OS
Bada is a mobile operating system developed by Samsung Electronics. It I designed to cover both high-end smart phones and lower-end feature phones too. Currently Samsung Wave (S8500) is the only smart phone running this OS. This OS has great GUI with powerful hardware utilization techniques. This is new in the market but it has already done a good start. The BADA SDK for developing applications for this mobile platform is easily available free of cost from its site.
4. Google Android
Android is an operating system for mobile devices such as cellular phones, tablet computers and net books. HTC is one of the brands offering smart phones and PDAs with Google Android OS integrated with its cool HTC Sense technology. The marketplace of Google Android is the best. There are 10,000+ applications including games in its market place. Some of them are free too. Google Android SDK is available free of cost, so you can design your own applications. Also, you can sell your designed application for a great amount. Google Android has many google applications with full functionality like Google Goggles, Maps, Voice and much more.
5. Apple iOS
iOS is Apple’s mobile operating system. Developed originally for iPhone, it’s now used in iPod Touch and iPad too. It includes the basic applications like Safari (for internet browsing), iTunes (To access the iTunes Music Store and iTunes Podcast Directory), YouTube, etc. Its most unique feature is Nike + iPod which records the distance and pace of a walk or run, can connect to Nike + iPod sensor. The SDK of Apple iOS is available free of cost. You can design your own application and sell it on App Store. You can set your price and earn 70% share for each application buyed by user. So start earning.
So, these are the most known or you can say famous Mobile OS. Since, I am a .NET developer; I like the Windows Mobile OS because I can create my own application within minutes. So, if you are a developer, in future take care to look at the OS of the mobile you are purchasing.
